For some reason the buttons don't always show when I'm reading a thread... annoying, I know. Karma and Smite are another example.... I assume they're for reputation points, but you know, there are times when I like having the opportunity to smite someone indiscriminately, and then the buttons aren't showing. Hmmm... this may be the best evidence yet of a higher power! ;D By the way, since we're now on the subject of stuff I can't seem to do, is there a way to attach photos here, that I'm not seeing? Keep in mind that I'm generally a luddite when it comes to a computer. It may be right in front of me, but I wouldn't see it.

Kim will be working on all of this when she gets a chance, I would, but much like you i'm a luddite too I'm sure she'll get it figured out for ya. Once again i'm sorry I can't yet afford a nicer board, but this fall I will be getting something up

Hey ya guys, I posted a frequently asked questions thread in the "A little bit about yourself" forum.
I should mention, that SOMETIMES, the buttons are a bit temperamental and don't show up at all on my computer. But they are there, just hard to find.

Why do I get the feeling I'm about to show myself as a "luddite" with this next question? Oh, well, I'll ask it anyway. What's a "luddite"? I confess, the first time I heard it, I thought it was a religious sect, like Mennonite or Hutterite.

You're very close, Andy. Luddites are opposed to/afraid of changes, changes in technology, mostly, from what I gather.

The original Luddites were textile workers who organized during the Industrial Revolution in England. They were almost militaristic in their anti-technology stance, which they felt cheated the skilled laborer. Now the term is used to refer to someone who actively chooses not to use technology, not always for some highly motivated reason, but often out of a sense of fear/lack of knowledge. Luddites were considered very anti-progress. Here's a link....en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LudditeI firmly fall into the "lack of knowledge" category. Back in the dark ages when I was in high school, if you wanted to take a computer course, you got to write a simple program in Basic! (Mine spelled out a band name in little x's). In college I wasn't required to use one, because I was a Medieval Lit major, so I was surrounded by other luddites! I have had to use computers for different jobs I've had, but I am only very rarely required to load software into them, and I am NEVER required to write it. My husband, on the other hand, is a tinkerer. And he really enjoys learning all the latest things. He bought a home computer in very early days, and has been expanding his knowledge of them ever since. BUT - he has a hard time seeing the value of double digging a veggie bed by hand. We both have our uses!

Thanks guys! I hate not knowing what something means, especially when I find myself about to use it! I guess I'm either a "semi-luddite" or a "luddite-by-choice". I love reading about historical gardening methods and trying them myself, but I'm not above using some modern contrivances, like floating rowcovers and plastic hoophouses.

How do I send a pm? I was going to pm about those free seeds but I couldn't find the pm button. All he had was his e-mail. Am I missing something? LoreD

Go to the person's profile and at the very top, it'll say Member bio and there should be a link to the right of that. Sometimes the buttons are invisible for some reason. I spent a while thinking I was crazy the night I posted this topic. Eventually, you'll see a button.
