I would like to try to grow some giant pot leeks such as Yorkshire giant. But I can't find a Canadian supplier can anyone help me with this search. I sent an order to Garden of Eaden in England but never heard back from them. I only need a few seeds. Thanks Marj

They are a large leek. In England they are quite often grown in drain pipes hence the name pot leeks. They are also grown for exibitions and garden shows. Such as the largest leek.

Pot leeks are not as winter hardy as 'normal' leeks. They are lighter green in colous as well. They don't grow much hight..after reaching the maximum height they start 'putting on weight' on their stem. It is quite easy without any extra effort to get the stem 4" thick and more with a bit of pampering. Over here the pot leeks are usually grown from the young 'pips'. We 'shave' the flowers off from the flower head and the leeks produce tiny 'baby leeks' on the head in a place of the flowers. That way each generation are coming like its parent. Letting the flowers set seed and growing from those may not guarantee good standard of pot leek.
