I read this and wonder, how many of you have been in jail? How many truly understand what would happen if (big if) she ends up in general population in a jail? Nobody deserves that for drunk driving. On the other hand, she most likely will go to a country club jail, still no picnic, but, not so bad.
As for the young woman that killed herself and a family, well, jail wouldn't have changed that I suspect, or there wouldn't be an overcrowding issue and high recidivism rate. Fact is, the real problem was that the young woman had issues that needed to be dealt with, and that doesn't happen in jail.

you know, i kind of agree with you there bob. instead of just sticking someone in jail, maybe the source of their problems should be looked at...like in medicine, instead of masking the illness, find the source causing it...and find some kind of help for them in that way.

As for the young woman that killed herself and a family, well, jail wouldn't have changed that I suspect, or there wouldn't be an overcrowding issue and high recidivism rate. Fact is, the real problem was that the young woman had issues that needed to be dealt with, and that doesn't happen in jail. I agree that there are lots of folks in jail who really need help of a different sort. I also remember Kim saying something to the effect that if she was really a menace, they'd have put her in jail, no matter what her dad did.
My point is, that if she's in jail, she isn't driving. And if the experience in jail is horrible, there are some people who choose to change their lives rather than go back.
By the way, Ms. Hilton isn't in jail for drunk driving. She got the standard slap on the wrist for that. She's in jail for repeatedly flouting the punishment, which in part suspended her license. When a person continually indicates that the laws and punishments do not really apply to them, It is gratifying when they are taught that they are wrong. I feel that way whether that person is a real celebrity, a fake celebrity, or an ordinary mook.
I'm sure that there's a case to be made that my reaction is puerile, (or even, 'gasp', conservative - yikes!) but there ya go.

Actually, my initial reactions to the original post were basically due to the use of the word "skank" to describe a young woman. As the father of two daughters, I reacted defensively to a derogatory description of a young lady who obviously has some behavior problems ... but I thought skank was a little much. Maybe not in someone else's estimation.
Yes, Paris Hilton is a spoiled rich brat who needs a good spanking. Yes she flaunts her wealth and privelege and apparently thinks she is above the laws that apply to us common folk. Yes she has repeatedly operated a motor vehicle unsafely and in violation of laws and court orders. Yes, there are thousands and thousands of other folks who have done the same and will do the same again today. Yes we are a nation of law and the courts will decide how those laws are enforced ... not a sheriff ... the sheriff is a jailer not a judge.

And just who should give her this "good spanking?"

Johno - you can volunteer all you want, but I still think you have to abide by those house rules!

Oooh! I want a celebrity clause! After all, the Rock is newly back on the market, I hear. Gotta get that written in, just in case any hot celebrities decide to come strolling through rural Virginia. ;D

I'd lobby for a Celebrity Clause too, but DW has this thing for Pierce Brosnan, and I don't think I could stand the competition very well....

I dunno, Andy - my husband would probably let me have the clause for myself, if it also allowed for visits from Angelina Jolie or Erykah Badu for him! You've just got to finesse the negotiations...

Think I could get some legal on Beyonce or Gerry Ryans (Seven-of-Nine, from Star Trek Voyager)?

If I wasn't very happily married, I'd like to get my clause on Jennifer Love Hewitt
