Good for you!!! You mention in your blog that you got the original idea to do this by thinking about the drug dealers that grow pot inside. I have often thought that with the same energy and ingenuity that they are using to produce drugs, we could really go a lot further toward sustainability!!
Keep it up!
John

Actually, the high-tech, hydroponic, indoor gardening methods developed by drug-farmers will be very useful on long, tedious space missions; might even be useful for food production.

I ordered a T5 High output light for my veggie seedlings. How high above the seedlings should I keep it? I read 4" but would that burn the seedlings?

I would give them a good foot or so myself but i haven't used the t5 lights, in my larger box the plants grow right up to the light and then burn(more so dry out) I use the smaller 13w cfl bulbs(cool white) in a small foil lined cabinet for starting plants and it seems to do the trick.

John I agree john, one of the huge benefits i see to growing like this is the fact one can get a never ending harvest with the right crops.

Its been a while since i updated the blog (life got too busy) but better late than never. I thought id give a breif recap of what was accomplished in about 5 months of indoor growing.
Using about 6 square feet (4ft high) I harvested about 50 green beans of anywhere from 2-6 inches long. I very strongly feel that growing indoors is a very efficient way to ensure food security, especially for those with a limited growing season.
I am not able to grow indoors at the moment but would love to share my knowledge with others who hope to do so.
Due to major advances in LED lighting the(long term) cost of growing indoors is a lot lower than it has ever been.
Peace Love and Blessings Scott
