Anytime I hear someone say something like that, I have to wonder why they aren't speaking Cherokee, or Miami, or Cree, or Chippewa, etc.

Maybe so, but what's done is done. If we don't learn from history, our history and the history of others, we ARE doomed to repeat it.
In fairness to both sides of the issue, I have to say that I work with Spanish people every day, mostly Puerto Ricans and Dominicans, but also Mexicans and Cubans, and ALL of them, first generation and second generation, are trying to learn English. All of them. I have to respect the effort, especially since I'm trying to meet them in the middle, pero mi Espanole es muy broken, LOL!
