We took "Bacon" to slaughter on Tuesday and we picked her up today. We have breakfast sausage in the freezer, knackwurst in the smoker along with ears, snouts, and tails. Cooking brine for Canadian bacon. Defrosting the giant ham that we will brine cure and smoke for Easter dinner. Dreaming what version of pate the liver is going to turn into. Gotta cut down the bratwurst into individual links and pack 'em for the freezer. Wondering why the heck they don't know how to make links in NC? Very interesting....
THEN, we had a hard freeze. At the moment it appears that it is the final cold snap we'll have. Went to check the blueberries, peaches, and nectarines which are all in blossom. Everything seems to be doing well.... I love homesteading? YES!!!!

Ahh, nothing better than a new spring sprout! Perhaps you can send her to Oxbow's school of pumpkin saving?

Thank you Steev and Holly for the kind words. All is well. The baby was 7 lbs 10oz and healthy. It was fun watching the dad and 7 year old sister do the "happy dance" for her. I had to chuckle when my daughter said that she was ready to get her body back where she could get into the garden and shovel and work.

WOOHOO! Congratulations Grandpa! I hope all is continuing to go well. Tell your daughter she needs to kick back and relax with her new treasure. That's her ONLY priority for awhile! ;o)

Spread free salvaged seedy and dusty hay out in the pasture to reseed and give ground cover where it needed it . Not sure exactly that these efforts are my best use of time and energy but there you go , it is a done deal now .

I finally got my well pump put together today for my green house. Got tired of dipping it out of the little creek in front of it, so I fabricated me a well cylinder and used a old pump from the junk yard and now "WE Have Water." Thought you guys might like to see so as to glean some ideas off of it f you want. PS it sets in a modified plastic barrel.

WOOHOO! Congratulations Grandpa! I hope all is continuing to go well. Tell your daughter she needs to kick back and relax with her new treasure. That's her ONLY priority for awhile! ;o) Thank you, MNJ and all is well. After a long night with hospital noises, the garden is the last thing on her mind and she is ready to take your advice. They adopted a special needs little boy that needs constant attention and supervision so her hands will be full. She will have a 6 year old and a new born both in cloth diapers at the same time. Thank goodness that the seven year old is very kind and loves helping her parents. And Poppy and Mimi are less than 4 miles away.

Good God canning season is on me already! So far this morning, I pickled beets and made kale chips. I guess I'm onto candied orange rind and making lunch for grumpy.
I used up all the previous year's orange rind making hot cross buns last night. Okay who ate all the buns?
Happy Easter to all you folks. And Happy Ostara to everyone else.
Don't forget to hide the eggs.
