SquareUp creditcard payments with your phone

Not sure how many of you will find this useful, but i discovered this today and thought the idea was awesome. Especially at a farmers market this thing would be cool to see. Apparently there is a free app and device (although 2.75% of each transaction is taken) that lets you accept credit card payments on your smartphone.

As credit card policies sometimes favor the buyer -- even to a fault -- I am finding that some businesses still prefer to use paper checks aka bills of credit. What would be helpful to me is a no-frills way of cashing checks, without a minimum balance. To load a prepaid debit with a business check seems ideal, for now, but these services now seem to be check-into-cash outfits, which take so much of the check that it destroys my narrow margins.
