Is anyone growing Chickasaw Plums? (P. Angustofolia) If so what canyou tell me about them as far as usefulness for food? I have wild plums in my woods but I've never gotten fruit off of them. I'm not sure if they are Chickasaws or just Hog Plums. Any information would be welcome.

I'm fairly close to you, near Ocala. I've got lots of Chickasaw Plum. Deer and other critters love it. I tired it and if you get it ripe, it is just OK to eat; I'm told most people use it for jam or wildlife. I also read that commercial plum orchards use Chickasaw as a pollinator plant because it produces way more pollen than commercial varieties.

Thanks....yes you are fairly close.....we are in Bell which is about ten miles north of Trenton. I have to get a good way to identify the plums without fruit because as of yet I haven't seen any fruit on them!
