I'm trying to write a post for my blog about Spanish Skyscraper peas and I wonder if anyone here knows anything about their history. I believe they were bred (?) by Ken Allen, of Kingston, Ontario. Anyone have anything else? Like when, and how?

Well my information on it is completely wrong. I have it as a 19th century plant.
Seeds of diversity: 2010 SPANISH SKYSCRAPER: Very tall, 7' tall vines, light green colour. Excellent flavour, very old variety. This is a late variety. Ken Allen has been breeding it for productivity for 15 years in Ontario, Canada.
Terra Edibles:Pea – Spanish Skyscraper A lovely tall pea with heavy yield and great flavour. Developed many years ago by Ken Allan of Kingston. Limited quantities
Mandy's Greenhouse: Spanish Sky Scraper – another unusual and very old variety that Ken Allen of Kingston, Ontario has been working on…to increase productivity for over 15 years. Best for its peas where the pods are short and the peas inside are large. The yield is heavy, but the vines (oh…help us!!!) can “walk” right over us at 6 to 7ft! Hey….maybe allowing them to trellis over an arbor and then one could walk underneath and harvest the hanging pods! (well…it’s a thought!) Overall plants are light green with long season production. 91 days $2.50
Prairie Gardener: sells it but no information
So did he create this variety, or take an old variety and improve it?

Ferdzy, I had a good crop of them one year (2008?) but more often than not, they've been average. Still, they are a large pea in an even larger pod. I had crop failure this year due to the heatwave early on. Hopefully, next year I will have a decent crop as my seed is from 2007 and I'd like to replace it.

Ferdzy & Edwin, Thank you very much for your blog post and the info from Ken Allen. I do believe I'm going to order his garden research. As fully 1/2 of my time farming is done on research, I might be able to skip some of my follies! Anyway, I'm on a wild pea trial. I'm collecting peas to see if I can successfully do Fall planted peas. This year spring heated up so quickly that I only had peas for a few weeks. Of course last year it was a dismal year for heat and I had fine pas. I don't know what the weather will do. I'd love to have some of your Spanish Skyscraper if you can spare me 40 seeds. I normally do edible pod peas, but I'm really looking into expanding into shelling and soup peas. I've been collecting soup peas all year and am planning to plant them in August. Mad? Perhaps. Last year I had green beans for Thanksgiving. Of course my tomatoes got rained out in September. I of course would be happy to send you any other seed that you are wanting in exchange. I have a gazillion other peas that you can chose from Leo loves your trellis. Attachments:
