It's finally made it here. Came up the Pacific coast via thickets of Himalayan blackberries, probably.
Apparently it is now living everywhere in the world except for New Zealand and Australia.

Good money to be made by the petro/chem corporate by the spreading of pests far and wide, would be surprised if they had a hand in it too.

Oh, toom; shat is past tense, but your attitude is forward-leaning.
Yes, we are facing unforeseen pests/problems/challenges; was it not ever so? Although so many of our challenges are our own damned fault, (like allowing corporate bullshit to poison our environment, agriculture, and genetic resources), we are more connected to a community of responsible/rational growers than ever before, thanks to the internet.
Certainly, there is reason to be discouraged, but really, what ought we do but die in the trenches in which we plant our crops, fighting to the end in hopes of passing on the torch of curiosity and innovation to another generation? It's not about winning; it's about not losing. I think we're doing that. Subvert the Dominant Paradigm!
