;D I can't believe my peas came up and are growing well. I have been soaking them with a low running hose to keep them cool and wet. Today I took tall tomato cages and made a tunnel and then put the cheapest thinnest weed blocker on top as a shade cloth. I hope it works. The sweet potatoes are hemming in there because it was supposed to be alfalfa and the sweets vines could cover it but I had an idea to do fall peas and put them there without thinking about the vines being there.

I don't know where my pic went. After germination With the shade strip. Another angle. They are a good foot tall now. I can't believe it!

Congratulations, Minnie! When did you plant them? I never seem to get the dates right for fall planting...

They were seeded on 7/21 and shade covered about a week later. I watered them heavily with a running hose a lot after seeding.

They are Mammoth Melting snow peas. Pic from today. Very windy today and they looked floppy. The ones on the very end of the bed are crappy since the sunchokes blocked the sprinkler down there. Oh well. I had unplugged my drip lines in this area to save the toms and taters.

The peas did ok but the productivity was low. Probably 1.5 pints per week! Very hard to pick how I had them too. I think I have to let them go now because mid to low 20s are forecasted but it is too windy to cover them. The have PM too . However I am still happy I had some !

Flowers do seem very frost tolerant. I am not sure why they have a tender reputation.
Pea shoots are delicious raw or cooked. I have been cutting the tips for greens mix, so even if they didn't make peas they were worth that. Plus where I had peas all spring has lots of volunteers.
