Wherever you have large groups of people, you have politics, you have egos, you have self-interest. I don't, for a minute, believe that all of these groups are driven purely for the good of all. An awful lot of these groups are about the desire and ambitions of folks. Just how I see it. Still, if everyone who grows, keeps their own seeds, then, no matter what the groups do, or don't do, there will be seeds to grow.

I can understand a "business" wanting to trademark, or at least register their name. When I had my own business, I did. I didn't want someone else to be able to use that name, pass themselves off as me, or something like that. That is part of being in business, taking care of your name so someone can't pass themselves off as being affiliated, do a bad job and it reflect on you. But for a non-profit group to do it to something as ubiquitious as "seed savers". May as well try to get trademark "The Garden".
