Holly sent me some seeds of brocoletto (mini broccoli), never having grown it I was curious that she wrote it was a fast crop on the envelop. SHE WASN'T KIDDING! I started the seeds in my ziplock bag on Tuesday and they began sprouting on Wednesday!!!
I gotta get some styrofoam cups on the way home!!!!!!!!! And dig some compost out of the barrell.
I'm really excited, I have never even heard of this before so I'm hoping it does well for us.....a new fall crop is always welcome.
John
ps Thanks Holly. Hope your back is better!

Yes it is thank you. I just can't be lifting 80 pounds of squash for a bit.
So, I'm moving them one at a time. The going is slow, but at least the agony is over.
That Brocoletto will quickly flower, so make sure you keep harvesting it.

My truck having died, right after I took a five-day vacation (not really, but it was necessary to keep the peace with my sweetheart, who thinks I'm a workoholic who is more concerned with his farm than with her; really, I can't imagine where she got such an idea), I've not been to my farm since 4 Aug 12. I got it back today, finally, after many newly found problems (well, it's an old truck. and thoroughly, if not well, used) So it's fully loaded with bunny bedding (the pet store was worried but suspected the truck was down; I'm off tonight to the farm! My nightmare has been that the irrigation blew out shortly after my being there last and has been pumping to no purpose, so that my plants have fried in August's heat. If not, I expect nothing worse than zucchini the size of Volkswagons. In any event, tomorrow at first light, I shall know!

Steev, I have a zuke the size of a zeplin. This is what comes of laying around in the house for a day. Hope everything is well on the farm.
Maybe you could put wheels on that VW zuke and drive it to the bunny store.

Back from the farm, greatly relieved to find the irrigation chugging along.
The most exciting thing was when I went in to get some TP to blow my nose. The roll is on a huge nail; I pulled some paper, causing a couple rotations, and something started falling out of the tube. Wasps! At this time of year, some kinds look for sheltered places to congregate. I think their job is basically done, so they just hang around until they're cold-killed. I'm so glad I wasn't sitting there in ankle-pants.
