Minimum I've grown is one, a single undivided round which may be up to 4" across. Usually it's 3 or 4 but often only 2 half-rounds. In the South, smaller but more numerous cloves are the norm.

Yes, mine are similar but a little more of a ball rather than pointed. I've often looked for seeds since some gardeners supposedly have had viable seeds. To date, still looking for the first one.

I told my elephant garlic first thing in the spring that if it didn't do well this year that it would be eliminated from my garden. [My current variety typically yields less than what went into the ground.] It flowered great during the summer, so I left it in the ground hoping to collect seeds so I could find a more suitable variety. Alas, I didn't find any viable seeds.

In my neck of the woods elephant garlic grows like a weed. Literally, it is not even in the actual garden; I have a clump by the back fence that I mow around and otherwise ignore until I want to either cut some greens or dig up a bulb or two. And I got the original stock from a large clump that grew by the back of Mr. Prince's tool shed.
Like Martin said, here in the South the clove count is a little higher; I've seen as few as 4, but they average 8-10 cloves with lots of corms attached.

I grow Elephant Garlic in the flower beds for the flowers. If you want garlic flavor, grow real garlic. IMO
I am thinking 4 to 5 cloves here most of the time.

My friend want to multiply elephant garlic quickly but can't find 11 cloves elephant garlic. Some body said his elephant garlic is 8 to 11 cloves. I am looking for that and sweet(not bitter) elephant.
