I have started a small orchard, apples, pears, cherries, plums, nuts, nectorines, ect. I have most of my trees three years going on four. I get this brown/black mold looking stuff, sometimes yellow. And the leaves dry out and fall off. On the real bad ones, on the limb tip. It turns blace and dies back several inches. The fruits always fall off still green. I know I shouldn't let young trees fruit, but I would like to see just a few fruits make it to maturity. I have neem oiled them, put insecticides on them. No good. Now this winter I put hortocultural oil and sulphur on them. Any ideas. My extension off is helpful and friendly but not knowledgeable.

It sounds like Tree Blight to me...I can't be certain though. The only reason I say it sounds that way is because we have an old persimmon tree that has similar discolorations on the leaves. I'll see if I can't find some info for you...

Actually...The more I look, it sounds like it could be an aphid infestation... forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/flgard/msg0117130019189.html Here is a picture on garden web of what aphids do to fruit trees... I did have a list of diseases...But I've lost it. I'll look again after I make sure my Dad has everything he needs before he heads off to work.

Hey that must be why the deer munch on them all year. Or used to, I put a small ring of fence around them. And so far this year no nibbling. I did have to move some of them. The easement for the electrical lines. I had my electrical meter reader tell me one day that I should move them. He said it may never happen. But the easement has to be free of permanent structures or planted items. Garden is o.k. He said his word wasn't stone or the law, just thought he'd say me some trouble later on. I thanked him.
