It turns out I have that sensitivity to parsnip leaves in the sun. That is what has caused my hives/ rashes. So no more parsnips for me.

Gloves? Waiting to harvest later when the sun isn't so strong? Seems a pity to lose parsnips for such a reason: they're such a useful root in Fall/Winter.

I know but it isn't a major crop for me and the greens get tall and the seed specimens from last year get real tall. I have had so many horrible rashes!

Yes such a useful root crop alright. Here's a good example of what diversity can do in parsnips, the seed on the left is a cross of a few different varieties, on the right is Hollow Crown, the F1 on the left grow 2x per sq meter, grew far taller seed heads and as you can see much larger seed.

Quite a marked difference richardw. I've been letting my parsnips cross as they want. The mix is Demi-long de Guernsey, Hablange weisse and Kral.

I admit that I hate to lose a useful crop to personal incompatibility, not meaning to suggest that the crop is at fault.

parsnip hivesWhen I read this I said "nope". I love eating parsnips but figure I can buy them elsewhere.

commonsensehome.com/parsnip-burn/Well written informative article. Gardeners are also getting burned by other members of the Apiaceae family. This woman was burned by carrots. I would have never thought this possible. Just have to be careful working around these plants.
