Has anyone ever tried the dwarf varieties of fruit trees. I would like to have some fruit trees, but I need to keep them short as they would be planted on an electric company easement below high voltage power lines.

Yes i have grown both Peach and Apple dwarf trees. No problems with extra disease. You should ecxept a lower yield but they are fine for smaller areas.

Down,
Do they stay short enough to prune and gather fruit without a ladder?

Mike, you definitely don't need a ladder for dwarf trees. Not even a standard apple tree gets tall enough that they would need to be trimmed for the hydro lines...Although I have had the idiots that work for hydro in this area actually cut down entire wild apple trees. Give some people power tools and they think they can do anything. I was NOT amused and the Hydro Project Supervisor heard about it. They didn't replace the trees, but they certainly made a lovely neat pile of firewood for me from the hardwood trees they had to cut back.

Blue,
When they come through with their brush cutters I've been hit by flying objects in my front yard, some 300 feet away. I'm going to fence it in since I keep my part brush hogged.

My Dwarf trees never grew tall enough to need a ladder. I was able to reach any fruit from the ground , sometime i had to stretch but was no problem to reach ripe fruit. Like i said above they are ok in smaller areas. Remember some variety need another tree to pollinate with. so check what variety you choose.

I have two dwarf Necterines. Last year we got about 15 off each tree. They are about 5 feet tall. and now about 4 feet across.

The tip end of my apple trees are dying and the trees seems to be losing alot of leave. The last time i heard we were 15 inches of rain behind for the year. My lawn is dead and has already turned brown. I have only mowed my lawn twice this year. In the 49 year that i have live i have never seen it like this. It is starting to get scary around here now.
