Saw this variety on Sunday at the Central NY Tomatofest. nyapplecountry.com/20ounce.htmI've never seen this variety before and I must say I was impressed! It is very large and as the vendor said, one would only need a couple of apples to make a pie. But is this a well guarded secret of the NY Apple growers? Or can it be elsewhere, albeit probably only in the Northeast? I shoulda bought some, but they were kinda pricey and I was concerned about spending $6 on an apple or two and having them confiscated at customs. Mind you, they did let us through with our lonely tomato, lol.

I thought the one we saw looked like a giant Granny Smith. They were almost softball sized. I will keep an eye out for them in my area.

The Wolf River sounds very similar. I guess the 20 oz could be an offshoot of that. The one we saw was grown in the Finger Lakes Region. I have never seen anything similar around my area.

I haven't looke through St Lawrence Nurseries inventory in quite a while, McKently has a web page and email (which he has never bothered to answer to me) but hey! you might get lucky.
He's about the pick of NY apple nurseries.
