Or any of the service berries, aronia, the unusual kinds of things? I have a goji berry in it's second year, still blooming now, has set a couple of fruit, but not ripe yet. Wondering what they will taste like. I am concerned though that they won't ripen most years, as it is the middle of Oct and they are not ripe yet. But then, we did have that cold April freeze that set many plants back. So, maybe in the future it will bloom earlier and set fruit. I did have ripe Aronia berries this year, can't say they taste like anything I would want to eat, though Alan was here when they were ripe and tasted one, saying they maybe made his sore throat feel a bit better. My service berries defoliated early because of the dry weather, but they are still alive. Haven't got to try any of the fruit yet, maybe next year. I have planted kiwi in the past, but one plant died, so no fruit from the remaining plant. But I just planted 'Dumbarton Oaks' it will probably turn out to be the same sex as what I already have.

Hopefully they will ripen up for you, when they do let us know about taste. I actually thought the Aronia berries had an interesting and tart sort of taste that was pleasing and there was definetly an immediate effect on my throat which had been verry sore prior to tasting those and which ceased for at least close to an hour after eating them. I would really like to have one of those plants, is there anyway you could get me a start karen, I could trade you something for it or buy it if need be.
I'm glad we have folks with vast knowledge of perinials (other than native woodlands types) here on this site because I have a lot to do and learn about from you folks and I'm definetly heading down an organic and permaculture path in the future, once I get all my anual, sustainable ducks in a row so to speak.

By the way Karen, how is the vermicomposting project going? Mine is doing great and i'm getting ready to expand and make several (9) new bins shortly.

I did end up with some ripe fruits, that is, they were there one day, and then when Alan was here I couldn't find them-we do have free range chickens, and I saw them pecking at the bush. So, at least the chickens got to enjoy them. They are very small berries though, it would take a lot of them to make a mouthful. Interesting thing about the bushes, they were still blooming into November, didn't seem affected by the frost until it got into the low 20s when they finally looked like they noticed. My one plant has suckered to produce another plant. It is a plant that would work very well in the ornamental garden. Karen
