I cut open one of the 35 lb Black Hopis. The seed cluster was very small and many of the seeds are either blanks or immature. If I have even 20 mature seed I will be surprised.

Can we build this up as a database of cutaway shots? Might help people when choosing varieties. Will take a picture and add when I open my next squash.

Another Hopi Black where the split is easier to see. They all split like this after the heavy rains. This squash wound up having no viable seeds. Not one. It didn't have many seeds to start with but when I examined them closely, none had matured. I cut another one that was a little smaller than this. It also had no mature seeds. This is a really long season squash. Mine have not produced many seeds at all. And even when they do produce seeds, they don't seem to mature (at least not in our weather this fall) until the skin of the squash has turned from dark green to a little bit brown.

Green Chestnut inside. All of these are in the oven now. Colorwise the Crown was the darkest, followed by Jarrahdale and next Green Chestnut. The Green Chestnut looks very stringy. The Green Chestnut tasted like Spaghetti Squash. The QB was rich The Crown was the sweetest and tastiest. Attachments:
