I'm getting conflicting reports on whether or not these seeds need to be ?stratified? or frozen for a while to make them germinate. BC says treat them like a tomato seed and other advice is to throw them in the freezer for a month. Any opinions? Also, how long do they take to germinate if anyone has experience with them.

Do you mean Alpine Strawberries (F. vesca)? If you do, I can help out a little bit. I got mine from a seed rack display one year. I might have stored them in the fridge for a few weeks, but I can't remember that for certain. I definitely did NOT store them in the freezer, I can say that in all confidence. I sowed them on the soil surface of a flat, key operative being "on the surface", as I had read they need light to germinate, and kept them moist until they germinated. This part takes a very long time, at least when they aren't frozen (maybe freezing speeds germination, I don't know). I started them in late winter, and they weren't ready to set out until early fall!

I never put perennial seed in the freezer, just the fridge. They do fine.

Put them in for about 2 weeks. I found a whole patch of tiny wild strawberries when we cut part of the field. I really didn't notice if they had runners. I just realized, I should ask my neighbor if they were planted there.
He showed me where asparagus was planted in 1975, but nothing comes up there. Though I do find them growing in the fields. Even though I dont eat it, I am going to move them into my garden. I like when it matures and gets the berries

FP, better wait and taste those berries before you get too excited. They may be Indian Strawberries, which look pretty, but have all the flavor of a glass of water.

I tasted them. Very small but nice and sweet. The hens were inhaling them.
