This tree was grown from seed and is blooming for the first time.
On the same stem, some blossoms are very dark pink with red centers. Others are very light, almost white.
What are possible causes?

Virus? Why virus? We have a peach tree that is plagued with plum circulio and goodness only knows what else. Mike won't pull it out and replace it because .... pisses me off, but there it is. Could we have virus also?

I find they open darker but fade in the sun fairly quickly, becoming pale in just a couple of days. Usually when I see that effect the palest blooms were just the first to open. I believe it's a trick evolved to make the viable, fresh blooms more attractive to pollinators. Could that be the case?

Since there are two other peach trees, blooming normally, nearby, I believe the difference is in the plant, and not the environment.
I'll be excited to see what kind of fruit it makes for the first time.

Good luck to you. I have one in my backyard that has bloomed the past two (maybe three? can't remember...) years, but I haven't gotten any fruit yet. Last year it was so covered in pink it rivalled the azaleas, but none of the fruit made it to the house. Part curculio damage, but mostly the local critters deciding they're ready before I do. Guess I could toss bird netting over it this year and see what happens, since it's not much taller than me yet. Eventually it will make enough for the wildlife and the humans, like the ones at mama Porter's and Mr Prince's do, but I'm impatient...

Thanks.
This pest has been sighted in my city, and I hope to find harmless ways to control it.
