I just gotta vent a bit. Such a bad spring! My greenhouse stopped holding in heat and my brassicas and later summer squash were froze because of it. My onion plants didn't look so great and I was 1.5 beds short. Of course everything is late and the weather so cold! That made my transplanting of market plants very late so I can't bring peppers to market I think this first week. My greenhouse was destroyed in the winds on Saturday, luckily the toms and peps were not out there yet; I did lose some lettuce and brassicas. I found this morning that for some reason my brassicas planted a week ago turned white, bleached out. They were hardened off and so this makes no sense. The lettuce plants in the same place were ok. I don't know if I will have enough brassicas and onions surviving to have a good crop. Dixondale is sending 5 more bunches of leeks and 5 of Walla Walla since I complained I had some problems. I spent all this money on materials for low tunnels but they were basically not needed since getting the priority crops in took until now and now I don't need the tunnels for spring. So this is pretty stressful and I am at home today with IBS. It is 90 degrees out anyway. If I start to feel better I need to transplant the rest of my tomatoes and start peppers. I have trays all over since no greenhouse now.

Oh Minnie, I feel your pain. I'm trying to keep calm, but the weather has been just plain hot. I need more irrigation than I own. I drove 90 miles to pick some up, only to find out they had no fittings.
The green house shade cloth I ordered is back-ordered for 3 weeks. Bring the white coats. I'm so sorry about your greenhouse.

Wow! Too cold for brassicas; bummer!
I think I posted the story of my green-house becoming a box-kite and disintegrating. Life is uncertain. Venting is necessary, on occasion, and likely preventive of IBS; sometimes you just have to blow it out, somehow. Find the least inconvenient way; be well.
The tunnel materials will keep and perhaps be of use not later than next Spring.

Sorry to hear about your problems and loss of plants. The weather is getting difficult everywhere.
High 40s to low 50s, heavy rain and up to 70mph winds is our lot at the moment. Whatever happened to spring?
Sorry you lost the greenhouse. Best wishes and hope you will feel better soon and growing conditions get better too.

Our weather has been strange this year and it's a shame you've had such bad luck. I'd be gun shy about planting tomatoes/peppers outside just yet unless you are going to protect them. My last frost is around May 27 and I'm sure yours is similar.

Thank you. I am feeling better today. The day my brassica seedlings froze in the greenhouse it was about 25. It was their very first night out there so I had them covered with row cover in the greenhouse. They are were frozen but only the outside cells or more tender ones died but it took a while for them to look ok. The greenhouse had some gaps and it was the last year I was going to use it but boy was it letting in cold air! Was this kind. I am still using the shelves solo. www.saferwholesale.com/product-p/8x6x7%20portable%20green%20house.htmI will be replanting almost all my onions (will talk about it in onion thread) and so many of my seeds are not up! The brassica seeds, spinach and peas are up but the carrots, lettuce and this and that are not showing much. I just hope things turn around and don't stay as bad as I perceive them to be right now. Some crops might do great. But oh the weeds are horrible. My mom is helping me a few hours a week and she will be weeding. She did two beds today already.

Minnie, here's the one I'm using: www.flowerhouses.com/products/6%27-x-6%27-x-6.5%27-SpringHouse-Clear.html. No, I didn't pay that price for it. Found it for half that much at the co-op in Starkville when I was visiting my parents last Thanksgiving. It did not come with shelves; I made my own with cinder blocks and scrap lumber. But it did an excellent job of keeping the cold air out. Might be worth looking into, if you can find that brand on a discount site. That said, I realize that my "cold" and your COLD are two very different things... MB
