Looking good LM. We have some yellow on our garlic tips too. I thought it was the single digit temps and frost that happeened after they sprouted that nipped them.

The garlic looks better but one variety is still yellow tipped. The corn from the tunnel is knee high now! Yay. I suspect it will be ready the second week of July. Both the corn and tomato tunnels are down now and the hoops have gone on the broccoli with shade fabric. All the crops are in at least once. Sweet potatoes were planted yesterday. I have killed about 10 potato bugs already. I hope it isn't as bad as 2011!
good crops: corn tomatoes strawberries onions leeks
bad crops: spinach peppers peas

Taters, 6 beds total. 2 are mulched First corn. Hip high on me. Can you tell which lettuce the gophers prefer? Strawberry picking starts tomorrow. Broccoli beds, you can also see which end the gophers feed from.

How funny to see the old pics above and the small size of things. Memories Here are the Little Leaf cucs from the photo above. I have removed the tunnel. No ripe cucs yet! Corn 3 in foreground- the one I am worried about pollinating with the neighbor corn field. You can't see corn 5 in between in white plastic and then corn 1 in the background. It will be ready in about a week. Some silks are tan. I don't think the red noodle beans are doing very well. 2 rows each of squash and melons just uncovered on Wednesday. They look healthy but the melons aren't as numerous as last year.

Thanks Joseph. I think next week I am going to wrap row cover around- horizontally- the two beds almost ready that have the hoops. I just can't keep the deer out.

Corn is super disappointing this year. Way long to ripen and few ears. I planted further apart, fertilized well, watered well, but less ears than normal. Some of the beds on the end get afternoon shade now but that should just be part of the bed affected. On the other hand most crops are doing great. I took over 100 photos on Sunday night! horseradish year one Little Leaf cucs invading the edamame and pole beans onions are awesome, pulling Wallas today I think, after I feel better first carrot bed started to pull last Thursday corn 3 on left is pollinating and I sure hope all was pollinated by itself before the neighbor field got many tassels! middle corn is bed 5, on right is bed 1 that is driving me crazy, picked 50 yesterday, 10 days after expected and they were pretty young

Those 2 corn beds are wrapped around in row cover to prevent the deer eating them. super awesome broccoli harvest this year. Loves the shade cover that is actually staying in place. I am also trialing varieties better this year. Melons and winter squash, 2 long rows each. Both doing wonderfully! Lots of large fruits. I was worried about the melons when uncovered but they are great. cabbage, cauliflower and pepper/eggplant beds. I just shade covered the peppers to prevent sunscald the other day. Several rotten cabbages this year. potatoes, been reaching in and taking quite a few 2 rows of tomatoes, also planted 3 dozen shorter varieties late for a fall tunnel sweet potatoes, probably not the harvest of last year, just hope less will be eaten by rodents

littleminnie: Great looking garden. Looks like you are getting good at using the ground-covers, floating row covers, and shade cloth.

Thanks. My neighbor at market says my garden looks like a Johnny's advertisement. The narrower shade cloth is just the cheapest grade of weed blocker fabric. It is $7 per roll and covers 3 beds for one season and then it breaks down. (150 ft.)

we saw this bear right in someone's yard on hwy 61 on the way to Grand Marais last Friday. It was real visible until I tried to get a photo.
Lady bug pupa and almost pupa on right. It was humpy and not moving and just ready to get to the red squishy stage. I will watch how fast it happens.
Glads and leek flowers.

Nice trees, but barely visible bear.
I'm told that bear are occasionally on the farm, as are puma, but I've seen no evidence of such in the past ten years.
