Hi all,
While browsing around the web I can across references to a kind of chickpea called Ceci Neri (Black Chickpea) apparantly grown mostly in the Puglia region of Italy. Based on the pictures I saw of it's seeds, it seems to be very similar to (if not identical to) the Black Kabouli chickpea. Are they the same thing, and if not how do they differ? Wikpedia says they are larger than most other desi type chicpeas, but then again Black Kabouli is also large for a desi type.

Have no clue about Ceci Neri, but the Black Kabouli planted this year are fine, so far. I just found a bag of those from last year; wish I'd got them in the ground. Next year!

There are many black chickpeas around. I've seen some from Portugal and Spain. I also have an Indian landrace with some blacks.
I tried black kabouli a couple years ago and ended with less chickpeas that I started with. Obviously not adapted to my conditions.

Yes! The incredible shrinking seed-stock! I've had a few of those.
I've come to consider replacement of seed acceptable, and an actual harvest, an incedible victory.
