I am curious, has anyone on the forum had success in harvesting sweet potato true seeds, and if so, have you had success growing the sweet potatoes from seed?

I've never noticed my sweet potatoes making seed.
The Beauregards I have growing this year are starting to push their crowns out of the soil (the soil was shallowly worked, so they're fighting some hard soil, poor babies).
I'll keep an eye out for any blooms; it's an interesting idea.

For some reason, Georgia Jets are now producing blossoms in large clusters. By large I mean enough to have 2 or 3 blooming each morning. There's lots of bumblebee activity but I haven't seen any sign of seed pods. Beauregards are doing their normal thing which is about 1 per vine maximum at any one time. Same with the Covingtons. No blooms on Centennial or O'Henry and never have seen any on them in the past.

I have had quite a bit of trouble finding anything on true seed for sweet potatoes, but last night I ran across this article: faculty.agron.iastate.edu/fehr/HOCP/46HOCP.pdf. This is my first year growing sweet potatoes, and I can't recall what the type is, though I know it is purple. Anyhow, it has several blooms, which is what started me thinking on this.

I have had success with True Sweet Potato seeds in the past. They need to be cross pollinated mainly early in the morning with another variety as pollination within the same plant (or same variety) does not seem to work.

I looked on Saturday; the Beauregardes are putting out little blue flowers. I wonder whether they never did before or I just never noticed (probably the latter).
