Anyone know a good wholesale nursery selling bareroot plants. I've found a few online but wanted to know if anyone had any direct experience with a specific company. I am hoping to find some bareroot hawthorns or possibly even sloe plum or american crabapple. I've always wanted a little piece of hawthorn hedge. But I'm not paying $14 a plant when you need to plant a double row of plants staggered at 18 inches. That would add up to real money after 3 feet. From seed at www.treeseedonline.com/blackthorn-sloe-prunus-spinosa.html. Germination has been slow but steady-ish. First seeds, then cuttings when large enough. Maybe you'll get your sloe plants at the right price......

Nice. Did they need stratification at all?

I did four weeks warm and then into the fridge on June 30. I left them there until I saw roots about the beginning of December. I stratify using vermiculite. I find far less problems with seeds rotting. If I have enough seed, I'll do up two bags - one with no water and one with a tiny bit - ΒΌ tsp. I've had hardly any seeds rot. The slightly moist seems to do better than the dry. If you're still looking for hawthorn, he also sells Crataegus monogyna. I got quite good germination, ie, what I needed - about 12 seedlings.

I thought the Mexican Hawthorne would be interesting but haven't been able to find it, in the ranch markets. It's used to make a spicy punch, was allegedly a popular item to be smuggled, but has now been legalized.
I have planted sloe seeds at the beginning of Fall, and am keeping my fingers crossed.
Our snow knocks blossoms off the trees, they are blossoming, and I'm hoping for stratification.
