Since there are so many Americans on here there should be someone who can give me some advice - pretty please. I have been growing some banana yucca plants for three years but I can't find any info on what age they are when they first fruit. I have been looking forward to trying the fruit since the seeds were sown and I am beginning to wonder if they will just be ornaments as they have also been so slow at growing. This is the size they are now at three years old.

Rowan, have you watered it? Here they bloom in the spring, after the rains and then start making fruit. Ours took forever to become established. When we lived in "Town" and this was years and years ago, when it finally bloomed and made fruit, it disapparated right off our porch. I think we moved at least 3 houses before it did anything. I never did get to try using the root for shampoo. Yours looks pretty small to me. Ours had filled a 5 gallon pot before it bloomed.
By the way, I have to tell the sugar beet seeds you sent made the most delicious beets. I still haven't quite worked out how to make sugar out of them, but I made a dandy syrup!

Thanks, I think I will have to be a bit more patient, they are small but they get watered the same as all my other plants. Maybe I should water them less and treat hem a bit more like a desert plant, but that killed a couple of them when they were small. Oh well, I have 8 of them so I could experiment a bit with a couple.
I'm glad the beets have done well for you. I never got around to making syrup or sugar out of them, just grew them for seed. I did eat some but found that hey were too sweet, just sweet with no real flavour. The greens are better than other beets though.
