Nicola seems like a very productive cultivar. Excellent haul from just a few hills.

I too did short row from jack sprouts. It will be interesting to see if yield is increased on the two I tried. The plants look great so far. In fact the russets are setting some seed berries.

Having never had much luck with potatoes, but seeing the influence of MAP and redwood sawdust, in this drought year, on my tomatoes and sweet potatoes, I am renewed in hope.

Steev, what does redwood sawdust bring to the soil smorgasbord?

Some organic matter, to improve the water dispersal/retention of my depleted, mineralized, sandy soil. Worked in heavily, it would suck up all the available nitrogen, so at this time I'm just spreading some monoammonium phosphate and then mulching with sawdust. When the rains come, in late October, I'll work in a lot of these for Winter/Spring plantings.
The full rundown on why I use these particular materials is found in "Backyard../Re-using junk" and in my being "tight as a new derby".

Well I can say jack sprouts work well. They produced fewer but larger potatoes per hill which is exactly what I had hoped for. Possibly from having one plant/ stem per station verses many stems from seed tubers. I sure like nice big russets.

For others potatos varities (sarpo mira, tollocan fiesta) they give me for the better one 3 to 3,5 lb/ sprout. But with sarpo mira I can find bigs tubers more 1lb only and sometime bigs and small of eggs size
