Was reading the Lost Crops of the Inca, wondering if anyone has tried this grain. I already grow quinoa, but would prefer something with similar nutrient content without the sapion.

Found some at Sprouts today. Got enough just to plant since it was $5.50 per pound. It seems to be a cool season crop, so I will only try a small trial for this years remaing wintwr season.

I bought some seeds via ebay some years ago. The plants that came up were big chenopodiums a la lambsquarters/quinoa/tree spinach but something it seemed to grow a long time and flower very late here in Belgium. I didn't get much interesting from the seeds...

Interesting grain. I look forward to hearing about your experiment.

Hmm, maybe I should try it again. Chenopodiums resembling C. album do well here after all. Although I do have enough tree spinach already...
(Does anyone here have some C. berlnadieri/huauzontli seeds that can be sent to Belgium btw?)

Oh, and this giant Chenopodium turned out to not have been my 'Aztec Broccoli' from Vreeken but the caniwa that I thought hadn't survived too. It was flowering too late for seeds that year, but bigger than my C. giganteum. Not very adapted to our climate if you ask me... alanbishop.proboards.com/thread/7507/aztec-broccoli

I worry that this grain would just rot for me but perhaps if it is quick enough to seed, I might be able to get good grain. I have a bit of C. berlnadieri seed so if you don't find any other source that is dripping in it, pm me and I can split it with you.

First attempt of growing it out failed. Either the spot was too shady or not enough moisture. I will try two spots this winter; hopefully it rains more this winter and autumn.
