The flowers are very pretty. I was going to ask about pollination but came across this site, which was helpful to me as a newbie. Hopefully, it will help some others, too. pubs.caes.uga.edu/caespubs/pubcd/L232.htm

Thanks for posting this.
Michelle, when you say that your peas are blooming, are you referring to cowpeas?? or English style garden peas??
Either way, I'm soooooo jealous.. My English pea seeds just arrived in the mail Tuesday.. Won't be planting at least for another 3 weeks or so...

They are English peas (Wando's to be precise). The blooms remind me of my mom's sweet pea vines when I was a kid. My cowpeas just now sprouted (except for the cream ones-I'm replanting those tomorrow, thanks to the torrential rains we've had). I'm also planting my fancy heirloom beans tomorrow. You'll be out in the garden soon, Wen. How's your okra doing?

SEven out of Nine up and running!!! Which is many more than I expected to germinate!!! If you have good success with the Wando's, maybe I'll have some special English peas to share for next year if y'all are interested. I suppose it depends on how my crop of these does in 2007 too,

My peas are very tasty. I'll have to remember to plant a lot more of them next year, though. I've only got enough plants for snacking, not real eating. I think I'll try to grow them all winter with row covers.

True that, Blue. Not a single pea or strawberry has made it out of the garden. Only half of the radishes have, and I reseed them at least once a week. I'm assuming you've planted your peas by now?

I planted mine on Sunday. The weather this week has been warm and sunny for half of it and cool and rainy for the other half. Perfect weather to bring on germination of cool weather crops. I expect I'll be seeing pea sprouts real soon. I planted them on the outside of the dog kennel, so that they had a tall wire fence to climb. I've marked it off with some short wire fencing. And sometime this weekend I'll be planting flower seeds in the same raised bed. I used to plant morning glories up the same fence to give a touch of class to the kennel, but what could be classier than a Spanish Skyscraper Tall Pea??
