I've had a lot of production out of my green beans but I'm not seeing any new blooms. Do I replant these or will they bloom again eventually. These are regular blue lake green beans. My heirloom rattlesnake pole beans are still blooming at the top but have petered out somewhat, too. Should I start new seeds of these two types? What about the other beans once they produce (lima's cattle beans, cowpeas, garbanzos, etc.)?? Thanks for any advice.

bush beans are typically earlier than pole beans but produce less beans over a shorter time span usually a couple of weeks max if keep well picked. Pole beans produce longer and I assume in some areas go till frost but not for me in SC and I don't think they would for you either. When temps are in the 90s and nights are warm >70 beans do not set well and usually succomb to the heat. I can get about a months worth of picking on pole varieties. It is best to plant a couple of crops of beans. bush for May harvest Pole for June Harvest more pole beans planted in first of Aug for me for late sept harvest till frost and bush beans in sept for oct harvest till frost. These date will vary but I would imagine your season lenght and temps would be very similar to mine. Rodger

Thank you for being so specific, Rodger. That's exactly the information that I needed.

I forgot to answer the rest of your question. I can't speak for the garbanzaos and the cattle beans same as above. I believe these are used as a dry bean so only one crop then plants die down when beans mature. Cowpeas will produce two good crops of peas. I don't plant them till mid may for early crop and Juln-Aug for a late crop. cowpeas planted in spring usually get thrips damage which causes wrinkles deformed leaves but they out grow it. I get a crop end of june first of July and another in late Aug. I usually till these under and plant my fall greens in their place they benifit from the added Nitrogen from the peas. July planted peas harvest late Aug and again late sept. The plants will set another crop but it usually doesnt make before frost and is not as big so I don't bother with them. You can adjust planting times typically need 6-8weeks to ripen peas so can plant from mid May till early Sept for me and make a crop. I plant lots of peas usually 8 plantings two a month harvest one crop and till under. This is how I maintain seed purity and grow several varieties each year. Also same as beans vinning varieties of peas produce longer that bush types. But with all peas I can get two good crops. Peas are not like beans that are picked every few days they produce and ripen pretty much all at once. Then will put out again and set another crop. Peas and limas like the heat and produce best in high temps were as common beans will not. Beans are best suited for early spring and fall. Peas and limas for summerRodger
