I was browsing the Seed Savers Exchange online and found someone offering seeds from some very interesting cauliflower crosses.
He did a mass cross of six old varieties from Mallorca with the aim of having cauliflowers that will ripen from November to April. He found that they tolerated drought and poor soil - just what I need!
He then started crossing them with some of the new coloured cauliflowers.
Doesn't that sound like fun?
I can't see paying U.S. $40 to join in order to buy only one packet of seeds, though.
Does anyone know of a source for anything similar?
