We want to build a compost toilet, because all that good fertilizer going down the drain is just a waste. The reason we did not do it so far is that I am not very fond bucketing the uncomposted fertilizer out (and clean the bucket afterwards). The other option is with chambers and you always have half and fully composted stuff in the same chamber together with very fresh material, not very pleasing either. Are there composting systems which work with a normal flush toilet? What I really want is that on the top of that chamber there is a greenhouse with bananas papayas etc heated by the compost.... backyardnursery.freeforums.net/

Wow! How many will be using that composter, that you expect it to put out much heat?
I would think you'd need a huge composter to handle so much water from an ordinary toilet.
I have a manual-crank model from Canada which has been very good, all properly vented and trouble-free, but it doesn't have to handle a lot of "traffic".

Sun-Mar with the step; 75% more expensive than 10 years ago.

There's a huge long discussion in Permies.com about what people are doing/have done with human waste, you might find it useful to check it out.

Just noticed there is a long thread on here about it a couple of pages further on.
