For the last years I've been growing what I thought were rattlesnake beans. I can't remember where I got them (ordered them online somewhere and then saved seed) What I have are pole beans with brown seeds painted with black stripes, and flat pods that are pale yellow-ish with purple-ish stripes. (Something in between 'helda' and 'dragon's tongue, but even paler maybe...) Now looking for pictures of rattlesnake lately I found things that look different from mine. Most pictures show more round and geen pods, and more round seeds than I have (although the painting is right) One of the few picture with the same pods as I have can be seen here (mine look like the yellow ones on the picture, maybe even paler): www.eiei-oh.org/post/9040848794/rattlesnke-beansSo or there is a big diversity among rattlesnake beans, or what I have is something else that in seed stage looks similar in shape and painting pattern ecxept for being flatter... Anyone who can tell me more? Brown-black beans on the right... Not that I'm not happy with my beans (they actually look cooler than the green and round rattlesnake pods that I see on most pictures with google and they do yield good for me) but if I have the wrong name I'd like the right identification...

I don't have a picture of mine, but my "Rattlesnake" pods don't look like the image in that link (which I would agree look more like Dragon's Tongue than anything else). I am sure that a lot of things differ as they are passed around; it might be interesting to have comparison images from different sources to judge the diversity out there.

Mine also look like littleminnie's. The seeds look like the ones on bottom and left in the picture. Those others are weird ones that showed up in mine this year, with the ones in the box being the most weird, especially that little tiny brown one.

My pods and plants are like Minnie's - not sure about the seeds, haven't looked. My favourite green bean, so far. T

So I suppose that whatever it is that I and the people at eiei-oh have, it's too far removed from the real rattlesnake to be called so. It is a cool bean though.
No-one who knows what it can be? Pole bean, seeds flatter but with same brown-black pattern, flowers pink, pods flat, pale, with stripes and a bit like 'dragon's tongue'? Or would it be a mutation that has occured once and has been shared? The differences look too big for one mutation (flat pods and seed shape, pale yellow color)
(If I don't get the right name I will just call them 'false rattlesnake')
Speaking of snakes and serpents, I recieved some 'cobra' beans from a local seedswap. Anyone who can recommend growing these over others to me?
