So I thought I had decided on alfalfa. Went to buy the seed, and the youngster I talked to sounded knowlegeable... Alfalfa needs hot and dry? Like Texas? We're hot and humid. And my proposed location tends toward moist, just down slope from the leaching field. I want biomass, and it can stay till frost kill in Nov. A couple cuttings would be nice. Just an area about 50' x 25'. Something other than clover? In the yard itself, I have dutch white scattered amongst my grass, violets and curly dock. Trying to choke out the grass. Chickweed is everywhere just now, along with henbit. Black medic will be along soon, about when chickweed dries out. The soil tests acidic.
Ideas?

Check out Peaceful Valley's cover crop solution chart and you should be able to find something that fit's your exact needs and location. The California Medicago mix we planted preferred alkaline soil and our Texas heat.
