Jim, you can pick almost any summer squash at a small size, if you like. I generally pick them no more than 6-8" in length. I pick patty pans at no more than 6" diam when possible (when I see them).
My current favorite summers are Raven, Zephyr, Gold Rush and White Patty Pan. Costata Romansco is a great tasting summer squash, but has a low yield on a huge plant for me.
I've never grown those round types, but they look pretty cool to try....
