Not really an orchard or fruit tree topic, but, oh well, over the last ten years i have been aware of a Sycamore tree that most years keeps its leaves through winter, its in a block of Oaks and other Sycamores which are all bare at the moment apart from this one tree, but the bizarre thing is not every year it does this, last winter it lost all its leaves. Photo taken 30/06/2015 mid winter here in deep down under

Hiya Richard; Have you got a close-up of the leaf & shoot / buds ? Does it set seed.....are they the usual paired helicopters? possibly Acer negundo (Box alder), with a need for light so keeps its leaves on longer.... just a wild guess here. If it doesn't set seed then well worth protecting as a possible erosion control tree with a low chance of spreading wildings.... Cheers. W

I'm going past the tree today so i'll get a close up for ya, hardest part is finding the tree now that all the others are in leaf, wonder if its about this time they start forming there paired helicopter seeds?.
Had a nursery do some cuttings from it and those trees lost its leaves....so...odd!!

top man; looking fwd to a close-up of the leaf & seed......perhaps copy to (P.M. for address ?) if difficult to post pix on here. A bit Sad about the bulk seed set......I'm background looking for more trees to help out the willows and poplar.....what do you think of Chinese Toon as a soil cons. tree? I would need to try some in wet guts and earthflows and around hungry beasts before getting enthused. Good that stock would probably keep any seedlings well grazed out.
