The long peduncle came out of my yellow snow project - it must be out of Yakumo or Golden Podded (= Golden Sweet?). I didn't take notes on the ped length of these two when i grew them, so not sure. Maybe a chance mix of genes that reinforces ped length? dunno. GP has occasional double flowers if i recall, suggesting it carries only one of the genes for multiple flowers, both are affected by enviro conditions for expression. But the gene didn't come over in the selected lines I continued to grow out. At the moment I've got 4 different clumps of yellow podded peas growing around the garden, rejects from a hypertendril project, that i couldn't throw out, and a couple of these also have dwarfing genes with double white flowers and short peduncles - thinking of another cross back to good yellow snow, but I suspect I've got too many projects to go on with as it is. I need to do some sums on expectations of various classes for my F2 and F3 growouts to see how many of those i need to plant, which will determine how much room I might have left for other projects. Just checked - one of my red mangetout F1s has a long peduncle and double flowers - and is quite purple too. Bonus! T
