I have these giant thornless blackberry plants that used to be along the back garden fence but I moved the fence so now they are inside what I want to turn into garden. I was thinking about now or maybe a little later this fall would be a good time to move them. I suppose I may lose some production next year as they are so big I may have to trim them back some too. Or might it be better to wait and move them in the winter or spring?

I'm waiting for cooler weather to relocate some of mine so I don't force them into growth with the stress of pruning/moving. Probably late October or early November for me.

I'd only move them when they're (going) dormant and not likely to suffer heat/dry stress.

I was afraid you all would say that. It was against my better judgment to move them in the dry heat of August but I want that spot. I want to dig a big trench, fill it with corn stalks with some potatoes on top and cover it back up. Guess I can wait till October to do that, might be better for the taters too, otherwise they might go ahead and sprout.
