I have a bunch of mauka (Mirabilis expansa) caudices (lower stem segments with buds) left over. I find them pretty easy to root, but not everyone does and the time of year isn't really right to offer them through the store. If you pot them and keep the soil moist they should root and sprout within a couple of weeks. Pretty easy to keep alive in a pot until spring or they can probably be planted out and left to overwinter in zone 8 or warmer.
