A contact in Australia has posed the question "If I have a C annuum growing near a C baccatum what are the chances that they will cross with no intervention? Should I be overly worried about bagging the flowers or is there a good chance that I will get away with it as they are different species?" Any info? T

I posted and answer on that forum plus a table with crossability of species.

For a real world example, I grew a red bell pepper and an orange bell pepper deliberately interleaved to maximize crossing. I wound up with 3% crossed seed. This was Annuum X Annuum. I expect baccatum X annuum to be at a lower rate.
