I have seen this a couple of times. The posts remain. What has happened to the member? Some died. Some forgot their log-in and signed up under different names. Some quit the forum. Some were spam-bots. Some got banned. I remember one participant that was frequently causing problems, and getting into arguments, and generally pissing everyone off -- especially the moderators. I think that he was banned for some incredible length of time, like 999 years.

I assume that the banned people had their contentious posts removed.
There are quite a few people who have not posted, and not even visited, for several years, yet they have not been deleted.

I'm also assuming something and that is that there is no "banned" on Proboards. Instead, it is "deleted". That only changes the status of the member but not the posts. Imagine the chaos that would happen were you or I to be banned and every post removed. Many threads would not make sense with missing posts. I have found no provision for a person to actually resign from a Proboards forum but it may be somewhere.

Forgive me if I seem a tad egocentric, but I just can't imagine how you all would soldier on, were my posts to be deleted; damn, I'm so important.

It reminds me of a quite hilarious thread :-D After research, it seems that the guy in question found people in Canada to play with his doubtful melon-squash hybrid. He may have found another place to preach his condescending wiseness. And guess what : his hybrid descent still look like plain squash :-)

Just curious, anyone know what happened to degzing? My best guess is that s/he was threatened by plant-police thugs, and self-deleted the account as a security precaution.

Sure we would try to soldier on, and this group would last a few weeks after you're gone. But it wouldn't be the same. We'd know the group is doomed, and go compost ourselves in our gardens. Or go eat at MacDonald. Same thing pretty much.

Really, I depend on Micky-D when en-route to the farm; without the grease from a sausage-egg-McMuffin, my super-powers start to fade; is it good for me? Prolly not, but how long do I want to prolong my slide into utter decrepitude? I suppose I've been trying to beat myself to death the past 55 years, with minimal progress; damned hybrid vigor can be a pain. What will I want to do, when I can't do a day's, or even some, work? Global Warming is reducing the number of available ice-floes on which to drift out to sea. The tribes no longer will move on, leaving me to cold and wolves. I'm thinking "take my walker out at night and hope to meet a mountain lion". They're not into playing with their food; just snap its neck and feed. Here kitty, kitty, kitty.
Don't think I'm despondent; I'm just adjusted to the inevitable and accept it as the deal of living as the precursor to dying; "What a long, strange trip it's been".
