So, my neighbor has these peach trees with hot pink flowers that I was drooling over. He offered me a seedling and told me that his peaches were Indian peaches. He got them from his dad. His dad's trees were pale pink flowered trees. He is not sure why his seedlings ended up being magenta, and fairly dark at that. And he's given seedlings away to other folks in the neighborhood. Everyone's trees are magenta flowered. Anyway, he said the peaches are bitter. I was researching Indian peach trees and all reports say they are fairly tart and good for canning, but nothing mentions bitter. Does anyone else have any experience or insight into this type of peach?

Apparently they're not self fertile so perhaps if the colour of the flowers etc are different it's a seedling which has thrown back to a bitter relative instead of the original Indian peach. So your seedling might end up producing something edible OR maybe something strictly ornamental, would be my guess, but others here would be much more knowledgeable than I. However given the character of bitter peach or apricot pits, I'd check it out before trying to eat any bitter fruit.
