Has anybody ever sprouted TPS or tomato seeds in cornstarch gel? This would allow me to most effectively utilize my limited heat mat space. I know many seeds can be sprouted this way, but what about these? I would move them to pots as soon as the started sending out roots.

You won't need a heat mat for TPS. They germinate just fine without one, and too much heat is bad. They like it cool.

OK, sounds great. I thought Tom Wagner said they needed heat.

I saw a lab research report with data demonstrating that tps exposed to 30 mT (300gauss) of magnetism for 10 to 15 minutes showed enhanced percentage of germination among other things. As long as we're discussing sprouting and growth..
I'm on my tablet but the webpage with the info is on my home laptop or I would share the link.
