I really hope to find some successful strategies against orange rust on my blackberry plants (Arthuriomyces peckianus or Gymnoconia nitens) as it is turning into an epidemic here. From what I gather, latest weather patterns make the spread more likely.

From what I gather, latest weather patterns make the spread more likely. Skillcult is doing a series of blogs about biochar, or charcoal usage. What your rust problem reminds me of is this recent one that details historical accounts of charcoal dressed patches of land with healthy wheat (if I recall correctly) versus the undressed areas which were rust-ridden. His latest is a patch of leeks where he mixed the soil with I think 10% 5% and 0% charcoal, and details a few years of comparison on the bed sections to try and validate some of the claims about biochar/charcoal given the hype.
