So, I know that finches can eat up seed from brassicas as it dries out. However, they are neatly snipping of each little pod just as it starts to swell after the flower falls off! Each and every one on a huge bed of flowering broccoli! I now have long spindly bare stocks, with a few little buds still to open at the top of each!
Have you ever had this problem?

Goldfinches, in particular, are attracted to yellow petals, probably to supplement their diet.
Maybe you have a pollination problem? If they flowers are not pollinated (lack of insects, or male sterility in a commercial hybrid) they will abort.

There should be plenty of insects around; there are honeybees, bumblebees, (2 types) and sweat bees in plenty in my gardens. As far as I know, all the broccoli I planted where heirloom varieties; DeCicco, Piricicaba, etc. And on the bare stocks there are still little nubs where the pods were bit off.
So far, I have not seen any goldfinches, just red heads. Rather strange.

Do you mean a red headed bird? Maybe a woodpecker. They eat seed pods.
