nicollas, (Neon pink cabbage) seeds for GBP £12.60 (ouch) Haute couture veggies to dress up a plate. Perhaps a bed of shredded cabbage under a red lobster. Would you like a little grey poupon butter sauce to go with that lobster? The plants are pretty but are just too unnatural for me to eat. I was just curious how a developer breeds that color of pink into the plant. Susan

I sure wish I could get this hot pink brassica to bolt! It's a cross of rainbow lacinato kale and Pak choy. I hope to get to plant some as a component of salad mix as soon as some seed is ripe. The other colors are setting seed just fine. Notice some pods are purple, some green.

jondear, Congradulations that is a nice looking plant. I really like the pink stems. I haven't yet eaten rainbow lucinato kale but I have it planted. I do like bok choy. Did you have enough of the cross to taste? I want to know how the stems taste. I love the both the stems and leaves of bok choy. I think lucinato will over winter here. When did you plant your two plants to get them to seed at the same time. Bok choy bolts so fast. I was thinking of sowing it at different times to have more chances to pollinate with my other plants. Weather here can be unpredictable. We can have some very warm days in March and April. Just enough to make bok choy bolt. Susan

Chedar cauliflower came from a mutant plant. It's a hybrid so not very useful unless you know how to overcome sterility.
Pink Chinese cabbage should be easier to get.

Susan If I recall correctly, three years ago I saved seed from both Prize Choy and the Rainbow Lacinato. I planted both in spring, but one plant of the kale bolted. I saved the seed, but noted on it to plant in fall to avoid bolting. As it happened, I had room open up and planted some of each in a twenty foot row, and knew both were crossed. It made a fine addition to salads when small. Both populations were very similar. They were untouched by flea beetles due the time of year I planted them, but the cold got them before spring. So this year I planted more of the f1 hoping to get f2 seed from which to select.
