I've had a backburner project bubbling away for the last few years - inspired by Joseph Lofthouse work on Kral. I mass-crossed 4 varieties of 'nips, and have been somewhat delinquent in sowing, labelling selecting and replanting - not to mention my dodgy seed storage and processing. But i did sow a patch last autumn, and needing to liberate the bed this spring, dug them up last week. they are finger size, but still large enough - i hope - to select for desirable characteristics - short, fat, and blunt ended. I think this is generation 3 of selecting on after the mass cross. - I grow autumn -winter-spring-summer for one year seed crops. Replants above, eaters below. T

Certainly looks like some chubby re-plants there.

hoping next season's generation begins to get a bit more consistent. Really like the blunt ended ones, and would like to see if it runs consistently through to mature roots. One issue with this one year generation turn around is the replants probably get distorted roots, so i can't really tell what big mature roots will look like. T

Was the 'mass-crossed 4 varieties of 'nips' one you named Bendigo templetonYep. I did grow a few more Kral the next season, and replanted a few of those nearby in a subsequent growout, but essentially it's the same gene pool, richard. T
