For some reason my iPad decided to forget I was a member and I forgot my password, so ok changed the password. Now I cannot log in with my original name, after fighting with it and going round and round and round in circles for 40 minutes I just gave up and added an "s" to my user name. First it tells you to log in with your name and password, then it says the account has been upgraded and to use your email address and then it tells you that the name can't use odd symbols (?! the @?) and it starts all over. the whole time saying, Welcome, Pam! sigh. Haven't tried logging in on the iPad again yet.
Getting a new computer this week as this one is in the final throes of dying and really really REALLY not looking forward to all the hassles of trying to upload or download or whatever all the idiotic passwords. Once that is done, I AM really looking forward to a computer that doesn't lock up every 2 minutes, and do weird things in general. It's been a great computer though, and owes me nothing, it's 12 years old. And the hydro tends to flicker at least once a week in the summer here which is probably very hard on it.
Took a week to ORDER one even, first outfit said they didn't take orders by phone so ( since I don't trust this computer anymore) I phoned to ask if they would take a certified cheque or money order. Well no, but they would and will make exceptions and take phone orders. Great, I phoned back with the details and got someone else who told me that yes they did take phone orders but only from people with accounts. And no they couldn't set up an account on the phone. And I could set up a guest account on someone else's computer but they wouldn't accept an order from that either.
The next place set up an account and took the order fine, then called me back and wanted me to send the computer to a different address than where I wanted it to come, as far as I could understand.
Then someone suggested Amazon, which I hadn't thought about, and I had bought some books through them about 8 years ago, so already had an account there. good stuff. oh. They can't FIND the account. so I phoned and they found the account. fine. back to the order and everything goes fine until I tell the computer I want the package to come to my house.
Now then, it was perfectly happy to send a small package to the mailbox. but the computer won't be coming by mail, so I have to give it a residential address. The system absolutely refused to agree that my province and postal code belonged together ..even though they were identical to the mailing address it had already said was fine. 30 minutes later, send another email. Whoever replies tells me that if I am trying to ship things to Europe there may be problems. Another phone call. Two hours later, nothing is solved, the person trying to help me has gone to ask for help since he is stuck for ideas and has been told no, it's his job to solve problems, and I am starting to get angry so ask to speak to a supervisor to tell her or him what I think of a system so shabby that it won't help a staff member when they need it. She is also unable to help, we go round and round until I am about to explode, say goodbye and hang up. Another email. No response.
Next day, another phone call, and I get the US.com from the link instead of Canadian .ca version. He doesn't usually deal with us northerners but is intrigued by the problem. Twenty minutes later, he has I think entered the address himself and the system is happy. So the new computer now is on it's way and should be here in a week or less. Then I can argue with passwords. It's a reconditioned one, so just have my fingers crossed that it will work as advertised, but no way I could buy a new one at 5 times the price, or I'd have got one here.
Gotta love living in the boonies sometimes.
